Running your own home servers and self hosting apps is great I till it REALLY ISNT. Being dumb and not getting quality hard-drives can bite you in the ass.

cyberfox1337xI love unraid
same.
cyberfox1337xHonestly, I find it better than Proxmox. I don’t know what it is, but it provides everything I need.
jrizzlerHave backups everybody!
yes yes yes.
SeeeeeeeebAm I blind? I don’t see pihole in your list
not blind, I use the tplink Omada controller to manage the network and will be putting in opnsense at some point. I have a device e for it, just need time and energy.. but I'd have it on another device anyway.
Andrew HarlessMy greatest struggles with Unraid have been with cache and nvme storage. Second-hand enterprise nvme drives like to poop out when you're not in a position to replace them.
so perfect timing for everyone then!
Wayneto avoid such a situation i am thinking of only building a pure storage nas baed on unraid without any docker containers and run docker on separate machines. would that avoid this incident?
having a backup of my appdata and settings that runs daily, and is stored somewhere else would have been the first save. not splitting data between the cache drive and the array would be another fix...
but seperating the docker and storage, no that wouldn't have helped here, and yours loosing power of the platform if you do.
Wayneso you are saying storage should always be on the machine where the docker containers are running? ok, i will consider it in my next nas build
not necessarily "Should always" but depending on the requirements
CebeideI keep offline backups of all my (important) data, everything else can crash whenever it wants, setting everything up is part of the fun anyway. 🤷♂️
you're the smart one I this relationship it seems.
