I have been hoping to migrate my gaming PC and my NAS into a single rack mount server and lucky lucky me for Christmas. I got a beautiful low-cost server case to put it all in. So let's do it together. I want to make special mention, please read these comments. I want to make special mention of un-rate. The fact that it is so insanely easy to just migrate and merge two PCs and forward to just work was phenomenal. I have been considering moving away from Unraid but after today's experience, no chance. It is phenomenal. If you're going to have any operating system, you're going to want #Unraid

QuantCiphersI’m waiting on a few components and doing the same thing! I’m actually going with Proxmox on bare metal and then Unraid in a VM w/ GPU & HBA pass through. We shall see how well Unraid runs virtualized!
I'd be interested in knowing the results too!
f744uasb219be honest. this channel was made so you could have more time/ money to play
Hahaha, I did hope this would mean I could get free stuff BUT, I'm in Thailand so I can't monetize, I don't have 4000 hours of videos watching on the RedApp, I don't get asked to promote stuff.. so yeah, was hoping to make it pay for itself but... not yet!! but yes, that was 100% my goal!
JJYou are rich with that ram
hahahahah, it's very old...
rose(✿^‿^)🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈I ordered a 24tb hdd about 30 days ago, the warehouse hopefully gets stock on the 9th it's been delayed twice since I ordered it. (it was a Christmas present ~$550AUD) it'll help me with my storage issues currently I have nearly 10tb of Plex across a seedbox and 4 drives on my PC, sadly I don't have a whole seperate nas/server that will run the storage, but at some point I will (once I can afford it) it's not a Nas drive just a standard HDD, but based on my research it should have a similar longevity of the enterprise drives, as they are just drives that didn't quite meet the enterprise standards (this is what ppl in community say based on the factories they have for producing the drive types)
I hope the drives come soon!
rose(✿^‿^)🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈delayed another 2 months I want this drive because it's a 24tb drive, but I need storage soon, and it's either wait for the 24tb or refund it and get a 16tb for the same price
captainobnoxiousDo you have a name for the company that makes this case? I like the look of this for a NAS, but I'm not finding anything searching the names you say in the video.
if you google ComWorkshop Thailand, you'll find their shoppee and lazada sites, can't find anything else from them sorry
Marius RaducanuWhat are you doing with 50TB mate??? I have one drive of 8TB for Plex and I still have space to fill
I am what you call a data hoarder.... so many data!!!
MØKNM - AMATEUR RADIOwhat size is each movie/TV show? I've got about 2k movies in total but trying to up the quality of them. so far I've done some but the 4k files I've got are around 8-15GB per movie
sounds about right
redmastershow us you rack lab setup some day. very interessting
will do, I have been planning an updated one including the network too
maynardschrinerLooks like your CPU fans are blowing towards the front, don't they normally exhaust out the back?
they flow through the fins to the back so should be ok
maynardschrinerusually the frame on the fan indicates the air flow direction and the one in the video is pointing to the front indicating it's passing air forwards.
well, then I better change it around! 8m waiting on the parity drive to finish building then I'm going to redo it with the large fan bay, I left out, so, I can swap the fans around on the cpu easy enough.
Jest HidariWe’ve come a long way now to feel a quad core as not very good 😂 kinda feel broke rn
We really have...
NerdlingersUnitedhow hard is to do something like this for a noob? I've never done anything like this before but I've dealt with computers before just not networking.
Everything is hard till you learn how, then you'll wonder why you were ever concerned! These days it's pretty easy, but I'm biased.
NerdlingersUnitedI would LOVE to do one of these but I don't have the space.
yeah, it does need some space if you go for this style, I just have a bror shelf from IKEA as the "rack" and it works perfectly well. but any computer box will do
nahidontwannaI really want to move my emby server from a PC to one of these rack type things but I genuinely have no idea what anything is called or what I have to search for to learn, any chance you could gimmie a hand and point me in the right direction?
JeffNice box bro. You’re very lucky. I had a box similar but not as nice as yours.
We do like boxes!
JeffYes, a good box can be a treasured item. Happy New Year.
techno_nerd007Awesome stuff. I can relate to the - is Plex down? When will it be back up? .. when I’m done. 😂
lol... yup🥰
natronwho the fuck needs 50TB other than video editors
danielabbou👍👍👍
stevoau7Yeah GPU pass through vids would be fantastic. Thanks for your vid’s I enjoy them.. I have a HP Elite-desk that I’ll be potentially upgrading this year hopefully goes as smooth as your upgrade
I don't know if it's just a teatiment to the quality of Unraid or I was lucky.
John JacobsOr a Christmas miracle:)
lol praise be!
BlueberrypieWait.... So you didn't have to do any prep? Simply turn off old system, transplant and done? No migration of data to temporary location or restoration from backup? Black magic!!
nothing, you watched me in real time (ish) pull it apart and put it together and it just worked.
BlueberrypieActual black magic! Amazing 🔥
wbzialGpu passthrough works fine on unraid. Both to vms and docker.
yeah, so it seems. just trust in the unraid.
walaricIt's a good box.
everyone needs at least one good box in their life.
BurncityHow do you start out doing this? Like job wise
getting cheap second hand equipment and just pulling it apart and putting it back together.
donkaif you only have 1 GPU (and no integrated graph) truenas had/had an issue where you cant pass it through because it's required for the os GUI to work. hopefully you won't have the same issue with unraid 😅
that's what I was concerned with but nope, not an issue at all!
SpyderAustraliaI know almost nothing about this content. Still had to watch to the end. Loved your commentary all through. Great outcome too.
haha awesome!
gifts 5533How gaming server is working?
now, its working in a vm with lowlatency remote access.
AndaluciasteveAmazing!
😁😁
Seb :Phow large is your media server. like movies and shows in jellyfin or Plex. I'm just curious
At the moment there maybe 49tb ish, and now I've got 90tb of space I can digitise a whole lot of other video too
Seb :Pcool okay.
Jeff PVif you do GPU pass through I would love to see a tutorial! I want to do the same here since my gaming PC kinda just sits there and my other server is idle most of the time. also what case is this?
Dany GonzalezI’ve done it with unraid. It’s not that difficult.
Jeff PVI am also but my goal has always been to do remote desktop with full quality.
Dany GonzalezKeep in mind that doing Remote Desktop is not the same as GPU passthrough. GPU pass through is to connect your monitor directly to the GPU and have it output the VM. Doing Remote Desktop doesn’t even require this and having a GPU doesn’t result in a better Remote Desktop experience since your main bottleneck is network bandwidth and latency, for gaming I would not recommend it. Even on a local LAN the latency is too high and the input delay will drive you crazy, even tweaking Windows registry’s RDP settings I’ve never gotten a good experience from it. For work yes, for gaming not recommended at all.
Jeff PVyeah that's my goal. I can do passthrough without a issue but I want remote desktop with gaming capabilities
Andrew HarlessI tried something similar a few years ago with a 2920x(?) thread ripper build and ran into a bunch of performance problems thanks to it having multiple numa nodes. All of those issues were fixed in the 3xxx series thread ripper CPUs so I'm super jealous of your setup. How are you remotely using your gaming server? Moonlight or something like Linus does with the thunderbolt docks?
ideally I'd like hardware docks, but I don't have Linus money, so it will be remote access, rustdesk works well, but I'm going to get bandwidth issues, I font play fast games so that's beneficial.
Andrew HarlessYou should give Apollo a try. It's a fork of moonlight that fixes a lot of issues people have with moonlight. It works incredibly well. https://github.com/ClassicOldSong/Apollo
Firewall PhantomI moved my multi-service server to rack mount this year, and love it! It’s F*CKIN heavy but overall is a better solution than the upright desktop case I had it in before
that's sexy.
Mteremko Mkali NET & Techreally niceee i am enjoying your videos
glad you're liking them, I'm having fun making them
Firewall PhantomAre you going to Proxmox the two devices to split the load?
Nah, this is just unraid only, which was what the NAS was running and I can build a VM to run windows for gaming, as long g as the gou passthrough can be solved.
Firewall PhantomAh ok, cool!
and I plan on a proxmox cluster with some micro optiplexes In the future.
