I had some questions from my previous video about the u raid build. I combined my NAS and my gaming server into a single 4u case, so here are some answers. #Unraid is the goat os. and I'm standing by that. The #gpu passthrough will work for a VM or a docker container only so I'll be using it for LLM only, likely #lmstudio

TechMakesArtPersonally, Emby worked better than Jellyfin for me.
yeah, I need to play with it.
techno_nerd007Cool. Let me know how you go with your LLM. I’m currently running Ollama and gpt-oss:120b on my Lenovo Thinkstation PGX. 😁
will do
Nick WilsonThank you so much @BenjaminSPowell for your videos, your content is always amazing and concise, and has got me exited about setting up a HomeLab. I'm incredibly close to pulling trigger on an Unraid NAS (you've sold me, especially because of all my mismatched sized HDs accumulated over the years). One concern I have is many of them are potentially bit old. How do you manage or vet the health of your drives and decide if a HD is worth adding to your array? (S.M.A.R.T, seek times, read times, temperatures, bad sectors, etc...). Is that something Unraid monitors? If you'd be willing to do a video on vetting your drives I'd be eternally grateful!
Bobby Allen241I have an unraid pro and an unraid lifetime server.
InKc913Are you using something like komodo to save all of your docker configs?
I'm not, I have a backup of the AppData folder, and if issues happen then I can just use the reinstall tool for broken containers, and it uses the config.
Tom Sepeon my proxmox server i am running a truenas vm and i have a vm with gpu passthrough whee i can run LLMs. nice thing about ollam and lm studio is ease of use but i setup a llama.cpp backend service accessible with open-webui. if i want to switch models i’ll need to change which service is working. but supposedly llama.cpp backend provides better performance. i have jellyfin running on an intelNUC to be able to use the dedicated gpu for transcoding. but then i installed tdarr docker on my GPU LLM VM and have been reencoding my library at night.
Jeff PVI'm currently using Ollama and Open WebUI for my LLMs and it's really good and easy to use. I tried to do LM Studio but it didn't work out for me.
PiperspyGo for LM Studio. Ollama is slowly evolving into payed and benefiting of llama.cpp and claiming it as their own ‘innovation’ …
ewwwww.... lmstudio it is.
mewy64 🇦🇺I love plex have a lifetime pass please tell me jellyfin is same same
not sure if same same but maybe close.
Tom Sepejellyfin is free. you don’t need a pass. the webui just isnt as full featured as plex. i use tailscale on my machines which gives me remote access to my system and to my jellyfin server. but we only have 10mbps upload so i don’t share remote access out of respect for housemates
geeksatworkEmby > Jellyfin > plex
stevoau7Definitely move to Jellyfin it’s well worth it. It just works, only issue I’ve had is some metadata but it’s easy to fix. And I can access remote without having to buy Plexpass. Thx again for your contribution mate 👍
yeah, the only reason I was committed to Plex was because I needed it on PlayStation, but as that's now been donated to the eldest child, it's not a requirement now, so it's probably going to happen.
stevoau7Yeah nice..I migrated users off Plex and they love Jellyfin. I use it on Amazon Firestick and it’s flawless. Others access via iPad and smart tvs in house and remote. I was a massive Plex fan but they have dropped the ball and become too commercial,
you're convincing me!
will_i_am_smallHold On. Have we considered Emby. That’s what I’m running on my media server and it’s faultless.
Nico Morgan | Equine MediaControversial but the Plex interface is just so much slicker and professional
The First LordI have 2 servers. 1 proxmox and 1 with Unraid. Both are just converted gaming computers, as the cost on servers is too high. Unraid is the best for gaming hands down. Fully runs the vast majority of my dockers and my main windows 11 vm for gaming. Unraid does suck for locking the gpu to the vm and not allowing a way to easily transfer it to another vm or container. A way around this is I use is having my windows 11 gaming vm as the llm system as well. All of the programs run in windows with minimal configuration and little to no background impact. I also connect with sunshine from my mini pc's TV and tablet. 1 issue I had though with the gpu passthrough was that unraid would not allow it until I uninstalled the nvidia drivers as it caused a conflict and did not allow the system even at boot to pin the gpu.
The First LordWin 11 vm with a 4070ti and 32gb ddr5 ram locked to the vm. Runs without issues.
yeah, that's the workaround using a VM, but I think I'll just skip gaming.. or build a steamos machine and use that... its an excuse for more hardware!
The First LordAny reason for new hardware is a good reason.
Want and need are Interchangeable
Charles SchwarzI use Drivepool on windows and it’s really easy to just add drives as needed regardless of size. Can you do that with unraid ?
yeah, that's one of the good things on unraid, it doesn't care the size of drive. only when you set a parity, it needs to be as big as the biggest drive.
VidgetHow can I get prowlarr to access cloudflare protected sites?
install flaresolverr and then add flaresolver tag in the prowlarr settings.
Vidgetokay I add the tag in each indexer?
yeah, then it will use flaresolver on that indexer.
VidgetThank you, I will try that 👍
VidgetWorked like a charm. Thank you.
