If you're curious as to how other people are setting up their home labs and self-hosting them what they're installing and why the selfh.st survey for 2025 came out last month and I think the findings are really really interesting. What do you think?

clientMe looking at cost savings like we didn’t drop 8k on drives alone 😂
lol... yeah... there is that
Grumpy BareJey love your vids... could your recommend a easy setup program list for a first timer lab home network for Linux Ubuntu server/Debian setup please?
like a beginners guide from start to find ish with essential must have apps?
Grumpy BareYes please! I ment Hey not jay fat thumbs
AlwaleedIt seems like there is a huge gap when it comes to the industry of email hosting these tools like ISPconfig and Cpanel but people try to do some other stuff there is also a Microsoft Exchange I know this is outside the scope of home lab and stuff but you could consider those because they are great tools. Cpanel
lykirīoh nice thank you
RobinRugChunkI am hosting my own email with stalwart which it actually pretty simple. I have a VPS with just wireguard (and some security tools like fail2ban etc) to which the stalwart instance connects to get a nice static public IP with correct reverse resolution and mail ports enabled. Had it running for ~9 months before migrating over. I use duck forward email addresses for everything so swapping from gmail to my own mail address was just changing the forwarding email address in duck.com. Has been working flawlessly for about a year now.
👻to able to reverse proxy i need port forwarding since cloudflare tunnel not accepting streaming which jelly and plex
egituleI tested a survey that pays per completion and it actually paid. Link: https://price-low.eu/a/xkjRySQW6YUYKwm
Sergio Sánchez Vallésman what an amazing content you upload, I'm hooked to your videos! I've been self hosting for 10 years but I'm planning my comeback on 2026
nice!
Tonythe different size drives only matters when you do raid? if you don't do raid-ish, then you can, right?
Tonyfor truenas
yeah, if you plan to keep them all seperate and run each drive as a single pool, no issue at all.
Mischa GielenThank you for explaining. I thought you can use clusters of same volume drives in one pool. 2 drives of 2 TB in one pool and 2 drives of 4TB in one pool. Please correct me if I’m wrong. 🫣
pools yes, no issue at all, but the physical drives are the constraint.
RobinRugChunkDoesn't even need to be different pools. The only limitation is that all drives in a RAID VDEV will use the same (smallest) disk size. I have 3 RAIDZ1 VDEVS with 1 being 3x4TB, 1 being 3x8TBs and one being 3x12TB drives. No issues at all.
Nero MaplethorpeHave you seen network chucks n8n with Clurd (spelling off) that seem a fun project
I have seen bits yeah, would be nice to have the time and money to do extended projects like that!
Albeik😁😁😁
HiddenUserI just migrated from tunnels to a pangolin setup. Great stuff
Tristan NewguyInterested to see what VPS provider you choose, been using Oracle PAYG within the free tier limit and fingers crossed I don’t get charged an arm and a leg. But definitely looking for a more permanent solution without having to look behind my back constantly.
Its looking like Racknerd is the opeion. 6.5TB bandwith a month for like $30 a year
Somebody Somewherebrother - just wanted to say thank you. spent all day yesterday spinning up services in my homelab because I've been seeing your videos. Nothing new for me, but a ton of fun regardless. Thanks for the inspiration, it was a ton of fun
I'm really happy to hear that! so glad to be doing something inspiring.
Michiel Willemswhy is authelia a legacy product? i still use it
aaoaI just started last week, Linux mint and self hosting services like docker, n8n and supabase for my personal apps and stuff. Still can’t do anything cause I’m very much new to Linux but we are getting there ✨
that's awesome! It's only a matter of time before it becomes all consuming!
