I'm giving away six invites to #Torrentleech at the end of the month and all you need to do to get them is watch the full video about this on the red app and join my free Patreon. links in the bio. This is an update to my replace Netflix series, I did with a few Requested changes. First off, It's built on #Unraid the the best OS for homelabs that I know of and we go through an Install not only setting up Unraid and doing some configurations But installing every single piece of application getting NZB's, getting usenet, getting torrents and also setting up a VPN so you are all in the clear. The video is on YouTube and there's a full guide on Patreon. That you can follow along step by step.

William MartinWhat is your thoughts on Unraid under a proxmox host? or is that bad practice?
I'd not, as you're going to have containers in containers and vms in vms.. networking nightmare. Unraid is just better as a bare metal OS.
William MartinDeffinitely makes sense. Thank you!
MT09_SchteveWatched the whole video, not a clue what anything is you spoke about but you got a follow. Will get on your YouTube when I’m home from work as I have some learning to do to set my own server up for home.
yeah that might help, on the Patreon is a step by step guide as well.
MT09_SchteveExcellent, will start jumping into it tonight. I’ve been meaning to do it for a while there just loads of information that doesn’t make sense to me yet haha
hopefully it helps
zmsteOh I want to win one!!
S6yxunraid isn't free
Correct, I do state that if you decide to buy it, please use my affiliate link, because it's 100% worth the money
bapboy2021you should show setup of like openwebui i just set it up on my server and have been really impressed, (I used llama-swap and openwebui)
KrakakaaIm losing connection with zima every two days. So annoying
user1239744685836good that you mentioned your affiliate link for Unraid, just got my system set up and need to buy it. might as well use your link since I learn tons of stuff here
if you did it would mean a lot and really help :)
B3nji and LeiaI just purchased a PC for a home server. This will be extremely helpful when I start to set it up
awesome!
FrogIf I’m using an Apple TV as my app player, what app is best for me? I’ll be building my actual server in a few weeks, I have all the parts just not the time. I’ll definitely check out your videos. You break it down in a very good way and don’t shy away from saying EXACTLY what you need to do to get started. A lot of people skirt around the… sailing…
bapboy2021jellyfin or plex are the two best options, I prefer jellyfin
I'm using Jellyfin these days... I keep considering switching back to plex
Diego VitielloI built mine around Plex mostly because of usability, if I eventually decide to share it with friends and family less tech savvy they'll be fine. Plus my PlayStation didn't have jellyfin available as an app. To be honest I'm loving it, I don't even have the Plex pass and it's working beautifully. Somehow it's able to handle 4K as well. Maybe do some research on what to use as a server, I personally have a HP Elitedesk 800 G3 SFF, best 100€ I've spent
awesome
SeeeeeeeebWhy transmission over qbittorrent?
I find it more lightweight and simple, but it's the same outcome
SeeeeeeeebGotcha, just wanted to see if there was a functionality reason
mewy64 🇦🇺I love your videos you have helped me do my whole setup now I have my plex fully automated. Love unraid just works. I'm using Tailscale and shared my device to get around the 3 account issue omgso choice thank you
that's awesome!
Brendan Green | AutomateI’m just starting out and want to host everything on one machine (3050). Don’t have a nas and was just going to expand storage with usb external drives. Would Dabian be better for this than unraid? Want to host media, cloud storage, other ssh apps.
Debian is fine, but you'll have to manage your own arrays and file management, u raid just does it for you.
VonHaggishad issues with this in the past, But got it setup with AI holding my hand this time and Its working well! But it's filling my drives up real quick 😂
the only solution, more drives MOARRR DRIVESSS!!
VonHaggisGot a 24 Bay chassis right here, Just need to fix my HBA that I borked 😅
lykirīi’m thinking about using docker + portainer on a server and ugreen as nas. is that
lykirīis that okay?
sounds like a good plan to me
caskoidk if or how hard they enforce it but on the tl rules they say giving away invites to random people is an immediate ban for anyone involved, just a heads up
caskobtw great video, I skimmed through it since I already have most of those services set up but that would've been a massive help for me when I was getting started last year lol
oh... I better check the rules.
rose(✿^‿^)🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈yeah it's against rules and if you did invite someone and they didn't follow the rules themselves you can be punished yourself
yeah, once I read the rules I saw that. I'll just have to make sure I invite people I can trust.
RichTransmission makes no sense. Qbit end of
transmission is super low resource is all.
Dany GonzalezBen I switched the GPU in my unraid setup from a 3070 to a 5070ti. I changed the driver in the NVIDIA plugin to the OpenSource one. Unraid seems to detect the new GPU without problem after a reboot but do I have to do anything else for Jellyfin to also pick up the new card or does it just *works*? Thank you for your time. Appreciate the videos.
as long as jellyfin was detecting the last card, you should have no issues now
ODBMy people, i found my people
ODBHmmm I'll give it a look I've been using truenas with jellyfin for my media server
boopbeepcan unraid do encryption? I'm going to be away from my devices a lot
yes, you can encrypt the array or cache data easy, and it's got good user/permissions management too
NeilGreat YouTube video!
thanks!
Mason RenschHave you tried setting up Nextcloud? I think that's the only thing running on my home server that I haven't seen you talk about. It's basically a self hosted version of OneDrive.
I've played around, I prefer Seafile, and I'll do some videos soon, just on 5his sort of thing!
Mason RenschI just picked Nextcloud because I saw some stuff saying Seafile obfuscates folder structure on the server and you need the app to really access them. Nextcloud is pretty tough on the CPU during large sync operations, though.
yeah, all those services are good and bad in their own ways that's for sure.
Sublevel4I had a next cloud server running for probably five years and I didn’t have a whole lot of problems with it until the last like year or so. The only thing I really didn’t like about next cloud was all the other stuff like the collaboration and all scheduling and all of that was something I have absolutely no need for. I just need something to sync files between three computers and keep them all up-to-date and next cloud was good at that, but it came with everything else.
Mason RenschFor me it's mostly just to backup my phone. What did you switch to?
Oshiftnextcloud doesnt use existing storage which was the dealbreaker for me. i use filebrowser now
Sublevel4I tried seafile and I couldn’t get it to work for some reason. Then I installed opencloud via docker/docker compose. I liked opencloud the short time I used it. Part of that install was traefik and I was thinking I wanted to install that as a separate install so I had more control so I could keep my Webserver running and direct traffic there. That’s where I am now, I am very new to docker so I have very little idea as to what I am doing.
yeah, it can be a pain, opencloud is a great option, and if it works then use that
saksafosBy any chance have you tried hosting homelab LLM for personal data, etc, Ollama for example? I'm afraid that would need substantial computing resources and power usage.
yes, I had ollama running with llama7b on the cpu yesterday, and it ran great, I have a 24gb 4090 card in the server so that's got the grunt, but you can see the power use spike everytime it runs. a short answer uses like 500w of power!
MadJohnywhat's your opinion on zimma os?
zimaos is great for small device, it's really well optimised for nas, and low power stuff, and easy to use too.
