Because I'm dumb, I completely destroyed a months of work on my server. So I've decided to rethink how I set things up in the same way you would rethink how you set up VLANs. I have made a video, maybe you'll get some inspiration from it.

StifftokDidn’t you just restore from backup?
See that would have been smart.. to have a backup in the first place, that I can restore from.
StifftokRESTIC has saved me so many times.
D H-MHave you ever tried opensuse microos? Curious on your thoughts
Just Build SomethingAlways something to improve. i had my first downtime in 3 months after a large download filled up my cache drive and took down docker on that drive.
there is "always something to improve". gold right there
Doom_HamsterIt all sounds like a lot of power and a big electric bill ;)
honestly it's not that bad, everything runs very low power, 99% of the time
Tom Sepei setup pohole on my main seevet and a backup instance on my media server. are you using a service like pihole?
not yet, I'll be deploying opnsense in the not too distant future
Tom Sepethis great thank you. i am planning to create VLANs but overwhelmed with figuring out how to get the right paths so things can see the right things. also want to setup reverse proxy
I have a video in my network playlist that would help you planning vlans.
Callum Riversbeen quietly watching your vids and I think your the best !!! now what's the issue with running all this just off one device I've followed alot of your guidance starting with jellyfin server i have it all running on a old mac book pro I've been keeping up with ya and enjoying the process and fun stuff like realizing lan can be fun but when is it time to upgrade
Thanks! The issue for me is that I have a few different use cases, so seperate devices is best. If you're just doing a media server, then all good!
luna 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈🇦🇺the irony of you talking about security and then running unraid.
tell me. more.
luna 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈🇦🇺they’ve had countless RCE that were never reported and quietly patched. source: i worked there and found them. i wouldn’t be surprised if they still had a load.
Oh, I really didn't know that at all... That is really kinda of upsetting... Is it enough to make me move to something else... I dont think so .
stevoau7Hey did you hear that Unraid plan to allow various Arrays in the future under 1 licence? Sounds like u have a few going on here..
I did not hear that no! I bet just after I get a new one, they will introduce it!
FrankWho hasn’t blown everything away at least once 😂. It must have been an It guy who said “failures are just leaning opportunities.”
I'll take it.
xanderbnuuyI apologize, I’m in IT but I’m just level 1 helpdesk and still learning. Can you explain why VLANS are important for management? I think I understand the security part but not the management part
VLANs help you seperate devices on your network, so you can have say a work network and a play network, and there is less chance that anything malicious or problematic will take your whole system down.
