The other day I did a video about the google notes replavemt Memos, I had a lot of comments about #obsidian Personally but m not a big fan, but I am a fan of #Affine. Self hosted, free, and easy to Install.

DailyInfoDose - Reddit Storiesselfhosted sync plugin with couchdb is ridiculously simple and works great. I've been using it with obsidian for 3 years now across 5 devices I swap between regularly and have never had an issue. if your only excuse for not using obsidian is no way to sync for free then you're mistaken. especially since your obviously familiar with selfhosting already

Paul van SchaikObsidian has a in-app sync service.. no secondary sync service needed. (But you can) Affine is more a Notion clone and not an Obsidian clone…

WattDodo any of the note taking systems allow for handwriting and recognition? I'm using saber to take handwritten notes but I'd like to move to something which can recognize the text to allow search.self hosting it all would be a huge win as well.

OrdinaryBypasserYou can use "Self-hosted LiveSync" plugin with Obsidian to sync it with your nas. it uses some wonky db though

FrankShould I use a cloudflare tunnel or Tailscale for the mobile app? Super neat! Self hosted obsidian/ notion.

Dec 7, 2025Cloudflare is easier and doesn't needs to vm have a VPN on to use, tailscale has a tunnel function though, but I've not really used it

1101101I would use Tailscale. Tailscale on the server side and then Tailscale on your mobile device. Enable MagicDNs and access from there. No need to put it out to the internet unless you want someone not on your tailnet to use it.

Capervan FanGood guide, pretty much my process so far (except Debian vs Ubuntu and the aforementioned Cloudflare tunnel) The only pain I’m facing now is the user interface when it comes to structure imported notes ( I have a bunch to migrate from Notion, I’m really pissed off how greedy they have become).
