I was asked to do an update with a little bit more in-depth information on Prowlarr, So this is a video on how you can use Prowlarr or Jackett if that's the way you want to go in your workflow for downloading content onto your media server. I just wanted to show how it works within your workflow, as well as a couple of suggestions on paid and free #nzb services that I prefer. #usenet

Bimmeljochany usenet newsgroup users that have any leftover invites? 😅
Will LennonQuestion: if you rename all your files after download does that not break the connection to the torrent client for seeding purposes?
Elbuortis this happening behind a VPN. Asking for a friend
that's ideal, add the torrent downloader is behing a vpn.
Antifa Lockhartfilebot stopped working for me, but once I dug down and configured sonarr and radarr better it wasn't needed!
Nice
Potatojust in time for my 400tb Server
Keenan LaschI have just been going to 1337 myself with my VPN. Is setting something up like this worth it?
Setting this up will make your life a lot easier, check out the replace Netflix series I have, will help a lot!
Tik or TokHow is the privacy with use-net?
Good, I've never had an issue.
just another daynot hard at all to find files, you need to know your source. and i not talking about open site. never use open site, only private closed, FTP and others, and you will have access to all you want
Justin BeeeeeeeeI always thought nzbs were invite only, thanks for the abnzb and nzbgeek recommendations!
Yeah same, but there are some around that you can get into but not super easy to find.
Justin Beeeeeeeequestion, can you recommend some news servers for NZBs? I was able to get setup with nzbgeek and run nzbget but I neglected to set up a news server 😅
Um.. I don't really have any suggestions, sorry, maybe someone can help in the comments?
FrankCould you make a video on connecting lidar with plex amp?
As far as I know the Lidarr project has been having issues that aren't recoverable, I did a video called lets replace Spotify that may help
FrankGotcha, I’ll try to look for it!
Tristan NewguyHave you gone over different usenets and what you prefer?
Yes but NZBgeek, abnzb and NZBstars are my go to.
Squonas TMI am so confused why nobody seems to fear legal actions or such? Is it allowed in your Country to just Download copyrighted Media, or How do you make sure to stay safe and anonymous?
People are concerned of course, but also very frustrated with the status quo. Vpns, seedboxes, Debrids.. all ways to stay anonymised.
Squonas TMOkay thank you, I am also very frustrated and want to try it, but currently I am still too scared lol, i will Check out what you listed, thank you very much. And maybe one day there will be a Video about it👀
people have been doing this since the internet was born, and I believe will be doing it for as long as it exists.
FitsouGRSonarr and Radarr do the renaming just fine. No need for another app
Its more an issue for historical videos you may already have before you start using jellyfin.
Jamie😁😁😁
wavewhere might a cloud seedbox fit into a workflow like this?
Ryan329Same thing pretty much but you add a syncthing server between the two (its how it do it). Arr programs connect to the torrent program and the wait for syncthing to finish downloading/uploading the file, then it will do your standard file transfer/copy
The seedbox would be slotted into the place of the downloader, you would then need to add a way to download from the seedbox once its done.
user8676965177555You make amazing content I’m 4-6 months away from starting my homelab journey and I would be so much more lost without you
Thanks! Im glad I can be of some help and hope that there is enough here for you to feel confident to get started!
Zach Hallcan you explain why I would use extras like overseer and prowlarr when I can just login to Radarr/Sonarr directly on my phone browser, quickly add a new movie/series, then just let them handle it? maybe it's because I only use one nzb index site so I don't have to manage multiple.
Scotty WilliamsI use Overseerr to allow my friends that use my plex to download things they want to watch. Overseer let's them use there plex account info to access my Overseerr and request media.
I_Am_TeemoIs there a way you can have prowler get better torrents with better seeds and stuff because some of the things take weeks to download but when I do it manually, it’s done overnight
Test the profile settings you have, maybe you're trying to only go for spefic types of files and thats whats stopping it from working.
Just Build SomethingGood tips! running this setup. for Jellyfin users id also recommend checking out the jellyfin enhanced plug-in that lets you search jellyseer from the same search bar within jellyfin. makes things super easy
Great tip
Liam MeckThank you!!!
the.real.plasmaProwlarr is not an indexer, it just manages your indexers (and torrents I guess) so you only need to configure them in one spot, it publishes the details to radarr & sonarr
PlasmaCame here to say this …. Not an indexer.
Barry GuessIn advance options in sonarr or radarr you can get it to rename the files but it doesn't show unless you have advance options on it took me a minute to find it 😂
RichProwlarr or jacket aren’t indexers
Yeah true, but its was just easier to ccall them that, that having to explain that they are index lookup/ management tools.
n8danielsYou have been a big help!
Glad to be of help
MatthewI still have the problem, following your guide to set all of them up, I cannot find a way to bypass/solve the are you a human test, so setting it up is not working. Especially on MacOS. Any solution there ?
Yeah Flaresolver is the go to, you need to make sure that you use tags in the Indexer setup.
MatthewI cannot find anywhere a place to get f
MatthewFlaresolver for Mac OS that’s the problem
Memento MoriI’ve always used Stremio, but like how does storage work with self hosted? Do watched files get removed or?
Im a big fan of Streamio. If you're downloading the files, then no they don't get removed, streamio doesn't download though.
Memento MoriI guess if I local host, how do you manage storage
Personally, I don't I just keep getting more and more drives.
Memento MoriWould be cool if storage self “cleaned” anything watched or something to keep the storage needed low
Im doing a video today to answer this exact issue!
PixelKhaosthere are some tools for that! I use Janitorr along with jellystat, which lets me track users watch history, and whether a movie or a show/episode etc has been watched within X days and mark it for soft deletion. The nice thing is that I have it set so it doesnt try to delete a whole show or episode to episode, but rather season by season. Its not the easiest to use, but the one that let me do most of what I wanted
KingBjordSonarr and radarr can rename files for you, I setup my downloader to stage downloads in one folder and move to their final destination after download, once it is moved into the correct folder, it will be renamed, iirc it’s under media management settings in the arr apps, you can choose the format for renaming as well to your personal preferences with respect to plex or jellyfin finding metadata for given added media
Good to know!
CursedprohaDoes Jellyseer gives any benefits if I’m the only user? I just don’t understand why I should use it instead searching inside sonarr/radarr directly
Zayn - リック(力久)It’s just a nicer interface on mobile, plus it shows trending shows and films you might also want.
Its a choice really, just a single interface to access all the content, rather than seperate. You can also take a look at nzb360 too.
Kittanwith jellyseer you have one interface for both radarr and sonarr. And it looks nicer.
LeonStruggling to get 1337x connected. I’ve messed around with flaresolverr and byparr but can’t get it to work
you need to make sure that you use tags, I have a video a while back that shows you how.
LeonI have watched your video on it, I have it exactly the same with the tags but it doesn’t detect it. Prowlarr sees the flare and can connect to it but it doesn’t use it for some reason…
oh... sorry then, Im not sure what to suggest :(
LeonNo worries, might switch to NZBs. Your videos are really helpful!
Riaan WillemstijnAre you using flaresolverr? If so what version? Im having similar issues where 1337x just stopped working, gave up on till I saw the following notice about flaresolverr: https://trash-guides.info/Prowlarr/prowlarr-setup-flaresolverr/
WouterSome ISPs have it blocked and you can't easily get around it
That's a likely issue too
LeonI can access it fine on my pc, only difference is that I have pi hole for that pc? I kinda gave up with 1377x lol
FblthpTheFound1337 uses cloudflare to block bot traffic so prowlarr cant get to it directly. there are other services like flairsolverr and bypassarr that can help prowlarr get past cloudflair but they are kind of hit or miss. ive heard jacket is better with it that prowlarr but i haven't tried it yet
MckadeI had to use byparr in jacket
ollebolleshould really use a private tracker instead
LeonWent to usenets instead lol, a lot quicker
1Cedi & CoinsSonaar and Radarr both have file management capabilities that does the renaming and even moving files to the right folders.
Yeah, I know it can work on new files, but I think the issue is old files though, thats where the naming issue is found.
1Cedi & Coinsbeen a while I ran it but I think when you try to sync it does that with your old files too. I'd need to be corrected on that. if not just ran tinyMediaManager, it works for me.
"tinyMediaManager," Ill take a look
GeoffYes, you can set sonarr and radarr to rename your main files, it's doesn't do the asset files though, so you have to be aware that subtitle files, deleted scenes, thumbnails etc remain
I thought that was the case, and I guess if yiu already have old files, the it's a manual edit.
GeoffYes, it is still fairly easy to do as it gives you the format to copy. You can set radarr to put movies into folders and name the file to a format you're used to. For example save it to /year/name (year) [quality]
Will it process existing data though? Say you already have a library of content?
GeoffYes, let it scan your existing library then you can "select all" from the radarr home screen and, from the edit menu, select ranme files. Moving them is trickier as you have to do it individually, create the new folder (as though looking for a new movie) and skip the search/download and move files
Ahh I didn't know!
