#AWS went down — and half the internet went with it. But that doesn’t mean you should lose access to everything you rely on. This is exactly why self-hosting matters. I’ve put together a list of some of the apps that failed during the outage — and how you can replace them with self-hosted alternatives. It’s not perfect, and it’s not exhaustive, but it proves one thing: relying on the cloud for everything is a single point of failure waiting to happen.

xjackp gamingI am curious about what the second service is could you explain it a bit further please and also I really like your self hosting stuff
Kery LouksDo you know any alternates for Lutris for windows?
I don't I'm sorry, I'll see if I can find something though.
Ian HaehnleinIn theory, could you run it in a docker container?
Geeky (VariablyGeeky)I would be interested in hearing more about Focalboard or Mattermost. I started with Trello and keep meaning to try Clickup/Asana and others but one thing that usually is a bottleneck for me is just simple features like labels and organization. It's a paid fedtire for Trello for example to label and assign your tasks to different projects or people. If I could easily self host something that gives me the control I like over organization I would consider it.
It's now on the list to discuss.
joelfan12THEY GOT MY BAN LIFTED.@CYBERGRID_4
Max.pdf🇨🇦"Lutris will not let you do online gaming" I'm genuinly curious about where you got this idea.
More along the lines of if the fortnight servers are down, lutris isn't going to help you play online.
FrankGreat video! I definitely need to add some of these
Add them all!!!
ImposterCureI think Jellyfin over Plex.
ChemaRxnYeah, could you even authenticate Plex if AWS is down (for non-LAN connections)?
I think so, unless their auth servers were in AWS, but not sure that they use Cognito
elRadixit was also DNS.... use Adguardhome or pihole😬
j.pooz 💙Adguard and pihole are DNS filtering apps. Not related to the DNS issue at AWS.
I plan on a video on dns management soon.
malundydon't work you say...
Best advice I think I've ever given.
JerryI’ve discovered so many new services and applications because of you 👍👍👍
That's awesome! Glad to hear it.

That sounds to me like you have a reason to upgrade or expand!
Tregelen🇦🇺Reason yes, funds no I'm afraid.
fenicilegit tho, I have 60TB of raw storage (30Tb usable) and I'm almost out
I feel your pain.
