This is the last review video of operating systems you can use for your homelab server. I have checked out Truenas, HexOS, ZimaOS, Unraid, OMV and now I'm going to take a look at using Ubuntu. I'll test drive #ubuntu desktop and server as options. Will this be the right option for my optiplex?

MikeI donβt know if the text is small enough.
njc2oHave you done a vid on plex vs jellyfin? Been in the plex world for a while but I see sentiment has changed recently against them
Yeah it has, I think I have done plex but need to do jellyfin.
njc2oThinking about spinning it up in parallel and kicking the tires. It should be cool with my media library thatβs all structured for plex yeah?
In console type: docker stop plex && docker rm plex And when that's done type docker volume rm plex
True
SeeeeeeeebBut then the question is why not use something super lightweight like zimaos and just use an Ubuntu vm?
Correct, zima is a great way to go, but Ubuntu server is even lighter. It was more about what are some options, I did a vide on Zima recently, and honestly that's a creat choice.
SeeeeeeeebYea I saw them all π but your saying Ubuntu is even lighter then zimaos while having more apps? Why would anyone choose anything other than Ubuntu then?
Ubuntu server is lighter than zimaos, yes. Ubuntu desktop isn't.
SeeeeeeeebSo then the question is does the desktop version take up that much resources that would warrant using a more limited OS like zima
yureki did install zimaos, for some reason i cant set my drive and the bug noti show blank. Try format even from terminal but no luck.
why did you pick Ubuntu πππ
Lol, because it was there.
Jon π¬π§πͺπΊπGreat vid! Thanks for doing the hard work so we donβt have to ;) Iβm keen on the Linux option for my home lab, but i think Iβll miss out not having an App Store to browse to see whatβs available. Do you know any good resources out there that goes through whatβs available? (Apart from your awesome TikTok of course!)
Interesting, I wonder if I can make a search for what apps are around and easy to Install. Also, thanks!
I was thinking a searchable table with the app name, app stores it on and if it's a container or not, something like that, with links too maybe. Anyway, something I'll have a look at.
Seak Hengplease more Ubuntu server ππͺ
