If you want to see the home network I've set up, maybe it's inspiration for you to take steps as well. #homelab networks can be a thing of beauty or a terrible complex waste of effort.. It's all up to you.

JerryHoly moly!!!!! Nerdvana exists!!
Welcome to the promised land my friend.
Pejalremembering the old Uplink game, exploring your network going to be a lot of fun!
AndaluciasteveSounds a little over-engineered (says someone who used to run a government Unix network with 200 users ๐)
Never.. it can NEVER be over-engineered,actually I think I need to add more! MOARRRRR!
Andaluciastevelol ๐ But you kids have so much more time on your hands. We used to spend hours manually tuning tcp buffers to optimise traffic and sorting packs of shuffled punch cards ๐น
Patwhat app are you using to design the above?
DevRack tourrrr
Lol, I did one a few videos back.
Kaish StrangeGaming server? More please
Its just a PC that I have on a 10gb network, and remote into, its far from perfect but works for what I do. Mostly.
Quang Ta8118I love how you run local dns resolver on the raspberries pi ๐. I would thought if you want the full extended, install a low physical server clusterer them together, using hypervisor like Proxmox, created multiple vm or containers to utilizing the HA feature, storage redundant, DNS redundancy, implement DHCP and DNS server through each container, more secure and more controllable from your perspective?
The system I have is pretty well managed so far, I'll be replacing the pi, with opnsense soon, and that will manage the dns locally, and not nginx OT technetium
Quang Ta8118Opensen is great, one of my friend running those at his house. It would be also great touch if you planning to scale your dns later for HA feature by deploy another one for redundancy
For me it's firewall, multi-way failover management, local dns resolver, and monitoring.
Yeah, 100% different ISPs
B๐ค๐พ๐บ๐นI donโt understand but cool
Donkkiido you use LAG/LACP ? on my case, because a mouse bite my network cables and the other half of the house was disconnected ๐. They have to wait for me to fix it (weeks, since i was away)
Donkkiiyour setup is nice, but maybe not friendly to AppleTV homekit (if you have them) to camera and IOT on different VLAN. can this be configured in highend managed switch?
You would need to make sure you use trunking to port access across vlans.
Donkkiithank. that โtrunkingโ thing, i need to learn. thanks :)
Dylan.DulaneyYou can also allow the routing of multicast traffic to/from specific devices (say, an Apple TV) over vlans, allowing IoT/HomeKit devices to communicate while still blocking other traffic.
cfarrimondWow, Iโm in awe of this amazing set up! ๐
Nice!
v Boomer vRack tour pls
user613do u make longform videos?
Daniel Ebbenomada is an amazing solution
rainblasst24thanks for the idea
Jaduong'Easy to maintain?
Kinda, I play with it a lot so breaking stuff and rebuilding is part of it. If I wanted to just set up and be done, then yeah, 0 maintance.
.dotfileswhat are you using for these visualizations?
Boop SnoutLove this and the explanation
vonobaomada is cheaper. they also hardly support their hardware with updates. I had to prove, successfully that the hardware revision of the hd620 ap I had, was not in fact wifi 6 compliant because they wouldn't update it to support PFM. I had to send them logs proving this. got a newer revision. then they just released another revision of the hd620 so my "new" one doesn't get updates. never again. and I'm not a huge fan of unifi
I am having an issue trying to update a device yes, but overall Omada has been good to me.
the_networkingwizardNice one! Very very similar setup to mine. And hello fellow Omada user!
Hellloooooo
AnphantBrooo this is sick!
Thanks!
PigJohnyou gotta remind the viewers you kinda need managed switches to properly do vlans
Yeah, I was thinking of doing a video about managed and unmanaged routers/switches.
PigJohnyeah I have a huge headache with my network thanks to not having managed switches. I can split things on subnets sure but it doesn't work properly when it comes to making guest networks on both bands ๐ฅฒ but hey at least I was able to install openwrt on my cheap mecusys routers which helped a lot
PigJohntoo expensive go to back now. all my switches are 8+ port 2.5g ๐ฅฒ
Same... The only way now is up.. 10gbps here we come!
gilboAwesome; keep them coming!
Thanks!
Daniel Gillamwith so many wireless networks, does this not cause signal strength problems with overlapping wireless channels or are they all on different channels? Not sure i have thay right or not
For me, nope, as I can select specific channels for them to operate on so I can spread across the range.
727377Itโs so frustrating still being on 1gbps. That is what Iโve had for 20 years! Have they given up completely on upgrading speeds? Why does everyone have this limit. Ridiculous.
I know right, where I am, there is a 2.5bgps option but it's costly, and only on mobile networks.
jane ๐Have you looked into any of the nbn speed upgrades coming this month? Fingers crossed we see prices drop a bit more.
the_networkingwizardPrices arenโt dropping per se. But youโre getting better value for money.
I pay about $40 a month for 1000gbps up and 500mbps down. Unlimited data and no speed caps.
jane ๐A fair number of providers will be adjusting their prices to bring their 1000 plans down to their 500 price point, so worth shopping around if youโre able to!
Darryl Taylordid you mean 1000down and 500 up? who is your ISP? $40 is insane.
Oh, yes sorry brain spasm there, I live in Thailand, so it's really cheap here and most of the country is fibre to the home or 5g mobile.
Kendrick DuncanThanks fyp now I feel stupid
daddiyesssss, very nice
Joseph Maceknow I'm asking for a rack tour ๐คฃ Just picked one up, the bare metal rack for 250 and I'm ready to add things
Rack tour incoming, I just need some patch cables and a tidy up so im not too enbarresed showing the world how janky my set up is.
Eli OrellanaWould you consider HA proxy?
Like a load balancer?
Geeky (VariablyGeeky)I have never felt like I related mentally to a network before hahaha. This is my brain, backlogs, and ambitions all in one. I aim to get to at least part of this on my own network one day.
Hahaha gold.
panda89๐ผthank you for your videos I have learnt so much and will try and deploy my own local jellyfin server soon!
BEst of luck!
not saying you have to but you can have your jellyfin media (IE your TB of files) on a separate machine to the machine running jellyfin service.
panda89๐ผohh I didn't even think of that! I'll do some research on that! thank you for the suggestion ๐
That's what I do, one storage device and a sepeate device for Compute.
GruncleJimwhat app are you using to draw this
This is Drawio , and yes its self hosted!
