🆒I loved these videos. Can I tell it to store everything on my PC instead of the SD card of the Pi?
you need to map the external drive and it will work.
🆒I’d love to see a video on that if you want to. 👏
I have a new device coming g that's going g to be running zimaos soon, so yes I can do it!
The Hayward Flooring CoI've set all this up now, how can I stream stuff on demand then instead of having to download everything first?
take a look at Stremio, may help
The Hayward Flooring Cookay so basically we use stremio for streaming and then this setup for a local library
zombie jeebusevery single modern domestic modem/router has DHCP reservations, as does pihole etc when used for DHCP. Amateur hour
Yup absolutely. I had planned on doing a local dns for all the docker containers, and casa doesn't support it so, this was easier to explain.
BenYou could set a static ip bound to the MAC address on your modem/router if it supports it. Most do now
I plan on setting up a home dns and firewall later, and that will solve this, and I'll make a video about it
adamkinniburghIt’s just docker in the background. Not an ideal solution as you end up with “legacy” apps in the Casa UI, but you can install Portainer from the App Store and use docker compose to fully control the networking
Yeah I think I need to do a video on portainer.
JohnJohnsonSo I’ve got everything set up and everything talks to each other. Oversseer works great etc. however…. I downloaded a movie and it’s disappeared! It’s not in the incomplete or complete folder. It’s not in media or movies. But I can see that it’s taking up space. Just can’t find it 🤣 any ideas?
That's an odd one, are yiu able to access it in plex though?
JohnJohnsonI know right! No not at all. It’s like a ghost file.
lalhi69DHCP IP reserve
Yeah, not all ISPs will play ball though.
Biker Dude 🪳He's talking about local IP reservations in the router. You can lock the IP to the devices MAC Addresses so they don't change.
KTRON-TECHNOLOGIEShow about you set up tailscale and use it's IP addresses they don't change
Very true, and I use tailscale myself, it's a great option. You can switch it on, set your server as an exit node and run all your devices on the one local, love it.
Yes.
NopeIs there a better OS that handles IP switching better? I'm thinking of getting a second hand ASUS NUC but wondering how you would recommend setting it up. Keep running windows or try something lighter?
I'm making a video now on operating systems, maybe that will help? But a light layer os might be best? It's all about how much effort you want to put in or use cases you have
NopePersonally my only use case would be this exact video series, wanting to set up a Plex based home media system that's fully automated
