After a lot of talking about, I finally got our #localhost.com live for you to discover, find, or just have a look at all of the different free and open source and self-hostable applications out there for all of the different operating systems you might use. It's completely free. It is in beta, so if you have an issue, let me know. Hopefully it'll scale with all of you users. But it's just a directory where you can see is this piece of software on the operating system I use.

anarcistwould be good if they were tagged with open source, free, freemium or paid
that's a good idea too... so many tags on the cards now! but a great idea
DigitalmooneyCan you add: Based on target outcome, it suggests a workflow tying all relevant apps together!
yeah, I was thinking of projects grouping too.
Oubaydos 🇲🇦 🇵🇸https://awesome-selfhosted.net/ how does it differ than this/the github repo?
🏳️⚧️Tay🏳️⚧️this is dope
PeeksxxYo ur tailwind play CDN is still compiling live in the browser that’s only for development big dog 😭 also your umami comment is still here in the dev console

zachherinkHell yeah
Adiru Adil ADFailed to search apps. Please try again.
I'll fix that, when there is nothing in the db, that's the error so I need to make that more obvious.
Ben6038Where’s ReadMeABook???
added but you've just shown me I need to really rethink how I add new apps!
stevoau7Hey thanks so much for your contribution very nice project. I like how you have curated and sorted apps. Great resource that I will use. Thanks again Benjamin👍
glad it's helpful!
LayfischThis is so cool!
Mitch Menghiwell done Ben I will check it out today do you have a section for your Chrome extensions also ?
I don't, I can look I to it though
beansYou should add vert.sh it seems quite good and maybe a step up from convertX. I could be wrong though
user4605288573291Will you add kubernetes apps!?
yeah, I'll be doing that soon
andernfallslove it!
ollIam sewrching for some sort of Newsletter which recommends me like one Service a Day or something which i can then put on my Homepage to keep me busy
GrimzaRulez 🏍 🇩🇰🇬🇱🇪🇺Can I search for european based apps only?
English language applications, is the only ones supported at the moment yeah, I don't have any other language skills so I can't do much on that front unfortunately.
GrimzaRulez 🏍 🇩🇰🇬🇱🇪🇺It was not the language I was interested in, I would like to know if it's US or European developed. Like Unraid is California = US, Proxmox is Vienna = EUROPE
oh, the site? well I'm in Thailand so it was developed in Asia, but hosted in Germany... and I'm Australian so.... everywhere
his question is not about YOUR website, it's about the apps you list ! We want to be able to know, for each app, where it's developed
clientGrats!
UnabnormalDayNow this is an insane setup. I can’t wait to revisit my homelab and use this to help set it all up. Is this a guide or is it, at the moment, only a “search engine” for the tools and utilities
It's a search for now, but over time I'll add guides to as many as I can.
UnabnormalDaySweet! A how to for dummies would be really useful for me personally. This is an awesome project you’re doing. Also, go to bed, it’s like 3am for you!
Anthony PetersWhat are the chances there is an alternative for apps like SiteDocs it’s a safety software
not sure.
Nero MaplethorpeBeing interested to know when something should be on its hardware vs virtual for example people told me don’t virtual machine pfsense but we do virtual pi hole.
Bare metal when timing, packet handling, or hardware access matters. VMs when isolation, portability, snapshots, and easy recovery matter.
CosmicVibeI think I'm dyslexic. I thought it said "holocaust" 🫣
Seb :Pdo you have any tips on how to use notesnook? I'm trying to self host it but can't find any yamls that host the entire app including the web browser.
I'll take a look for you!
Seb :Pthank you!
Seb :PI found that I can self host everything and simply use the pre built apps, it's not ideal as self hosting but works well. just trying to get my authentication system to work now
DaikiWonderful
JJYessss! Been excited since you mentioned it for the first time!
nice :)
marcosquillitasIs this awesome-selfhosted with added functionality or is it a different dataset?
no, different dataset, but I should take a look, see if they have stuff I missed.
CA🔥🔥 currently checking it out
NewzaddyThat's amazing!
neilEpic! Well done mate 👍
glad it's helpful!
Stephen HanleyLove seeing this finally live. Will there be a way or functionality to submit apps? Especially for alternatives etc
yeah, that's planned, I just wanted to get it out there first, I'll add the suggest an app form, and a suggest alternative (or something like that) soon.
Stephen HanleySweet! Can’t wait and thank you for such a amazing resource. I’ve been looking over it all lunch break it’s amazing
thanks :) I better do it soon then!
mikaeltorngrenLooks good. I will definitely check it out since I’m about to start fresh on one of my machines.
hope it helps
JHLove the direct links to PVE community scripts!
🥰🥰 the windows server links are a copy the winget link too!
LeonSearching through the website, it is sooo handy to have! I can see all the docked containers I can have very easily. Nice UI too!! Highly recommend
thanks! so happy it's helpful :)
OrionDHunter17can we add the specs of the homelab and it will only show the compatible applications?
that's a great idea.
jjjjjjjjjohnTake 2, with the right screenshot. When I visit I get an error “failed to search apps”
Robert MitchellBen you've been super helpful for me, between your videos and a little help from Gemini(free 6 month subscription). ive managed to setup, OpenMediaVault running on bare metal, with external hard drives on a tiny dell comp. Ive got Arr stack, Plex, VPN, Gluetun, Immich, Homarr, Dashdot, Mealie, tailscale, now im on the path of ebooks- so far its not that success. Will defo have a look over your site.
That is awesome news my dood! so happy to hear you're give it a crack!
Robert Mitchellall because I stumbled across your "Netflix replacement" video.
haha! a little taste of self hosted power is all it takes!
Banibatiti Star Art & ICT C...i want more, I need wikiHow . zim

Banibatiti Star Art & ICT C...yes
Colby 🇨🇦This awesome! Look forward to digging into it. Thanks for the hard work. 👏🏻
glad to help, hope it's of some value
elementaurixJust getting into homelabbing and starting with TrueNAS with a handful of apps so far. Can't wait to look into this and really dive into everything, thank you so much for all the work you do.
no worries, I hope this gives you some resources that help!
IcedraxMr Ben! I been thinking of making a home lab for me and my family. I wanted the lab to be a nas I can access from anywhere I am on any device and a media server like plex or jelly fin where u taught us yo automate it but still be able to access it form anywhere and on any device. My question is. Which OS is optimal for this and which media host is optimal plex or jellyfin?
unraid is my go to if I'm building a box with mismatching hard drive sizes. truenas is the choice if they are all the same, and umbrel is right for just getting started, and learning/tinkering.
n1ckVery cool. Any chance you’ve got plans for helm/k8s support?
I dont know a lot about helm and honestly havent played with Kubernetes that much, but yes I should add K8s to the platform.
