The full guide is on my Patreon and I have a high res video on the red app if you want. If you are interested in how to set up a home gaming server using unraid, amp, and pangolin, then this is a video for you. In this, I'm going to show you how to create a virtual machine on unread and then install Ubuntu server, amp, server on top of that. And then we'll go through the steps of using Minecraft bedrock as an example on how to create a public accessible URL to the port and IP of each of your game servers.

Brandon FlickLook at something called Pterodactyl. I’ve been running it for 7-8 years now. It’s completely free and open source. Has a massive list of games it can run. I did try AMP but it was lacking some features that was in Pterodactyl. Pterodactyl does need a bit more love to install though, unlike AMP which I think is a one line install. It’s also Dockerised which can make the process a tad easier.
totally going to have a look!
conorI use crafty controller for minecraft
clientI’ve just been running the Unraid ”Apps” version of amp for a few years and it’s been running smoothly. Just add ports to the docker properties and it’s good to go.
that works just as well :)
rwm810Just watched your pangolin video and got that all set. getting thatxto work with pelican panel was trick but was so worth it
rwm810was able to get all my game servers all in one place.
natronok but why is just forwarding ports in your router to the machine hosting the server and letting it run not good enough
its fine, if you have a static IP, and if you're not behind a cgnat, which many people are.
natroncool - sorry, didn’t mean to come across as negative, I was asking from a place of genuine curiosity. thanks for the honest answer!
all good :)
HiddenUserWhy run amp at all? Why not run the game servers in separate containers and just use Pangolins TCP/UDP forwarding. it's built in. Feels like AMP does nothing here.
that is a good question, that I've not got a good enough answer. for.
HiddenUserSorry my comment might have sounded abrasive. anyways I don't have that middle man and just use the containers on the Unraid store thingo. Love the vids!
not at all abrasive :)
glenn.with.one.nRare pleasant interaction in the IT world ✌
Dr CalemvirI feel like I am answer this as someone who has made several game server containers! because managing docker containers as a host is a pain in the ass!! I use docker compose exclusively for my entire server stack (litterally all services on my server run in docker compose stacks). the issue is organization and spotting an issue!
good answer
DwightTVIs there a way to hide your IP to the public somehow?
fake.gangstalkerwhy not pterodactyl?
DwightTVWay better than amp in my opinion.
agentfennecI use amp for a few games that only run on windows but everything else I use pterodactyl works way better
I'll have to take a look.
Wouteror Pelican. However, these aren't exactly easy to setup.
Definitely going to investigate.
JakeYeah, took me tinkering in the evenings for a while to get it running but it’s so nice to have.
legothugxugAny drawback of running AMP in a docker container versus a VM?
I think for ease of networking, debuging and troubleshooing Baremetal is better. BUT Docker is also totally fine.
joe dirtU should mention Parsec. I realize its not "self hosted" like Pangolin but it is a really easy and free way to access internal Game Server (that forwards ps/Xbox controller inputs) while outsourcing the security to the pros.
oh, I'll take a look!
