I need to clarify something I said in a previous video about #Unraid and their hard drive licensing, but I also want to let you know I've been told that in Unraid 7.3 they will finally support hard drive OS boot! So no longer needing the USB that is very happy exciting news

Nero MaplethorpeWould the boot nvme count as a drive or not ?
I don't have any visibility on that :(
Punished zedakJust the array or array and caching?
All drives, my bad.
rose(āæ^āæ^)š³ļøāā§ļøš³ļøāšomg yes that's so yeyy any idea on if that os drive will count towards the drives taken up by the licence?
I don't belive it will, same as the usb now.
Tall MaraI hope 7.3 provides a way to move your existing USB key license to an nvme drive
I'm sure it will. (fingers crossed)
The First LordWhat would be the bennifits of it being on nvme? Would the nvme or usb be able to be set as a backup, like a raid but for your os? The usb works soo easy and when/if everything fails (6 times for me), you can easily pull the stick out and reload a backup. Takes about 15 minutes. A nvme would take way longer to deal with. My system only has 3 nvme slots. What do you all use yours for? seems like a loss, unless you are running unraid and a micro computer. I use all my nvme slots 2 for cache in pool mirror and 1 for my 2 windows vms and 2 Ubuntu vms. os only, not storage.
Fred MorrisonMy understanding is it would only benefit from the longevity of nvme. I believe the OS runs in RAM and the USB device is only used during boot but I could be wrong
Correct, but usbs fail a lot more often that ssd or NVMe.
Not sure if it would let you partition a drive and tun the os on a partition.
Gibbowhooo rar time to source a nvme pci card
It's still a little while off though, but not yet!
BigGreek19THANK GOD YESSSSSSS šššššššššš
I know right
SweeveeI had no idea! Iām now so excited to finally move my boot drive from USB to NVME šš»
Yeah, its taken them too long.. hopefully its not much longer now
XxCRABSTICKxXohh wow, I got a spare nvme sitting around, might raid the 2 for redundancy
Nice and why not!
bobbobbidyboobahthey are sometimes quick sometimes slow with updates you never really know.
SmackMyBonesoh thank god, the USB thing was kindof terrible tbh
I know, so glad this is coming.
VonHaggisSure is quicker to replace external usb stick than pull a sever out of a rack to replace an NVME...
