In this video, we're taking a look at #openmediavault as an option for my #homelab operating system. If you're using a low power device that has a few connected drives then this is a great free option. It's low on features but it's reliable and manages all the storage needs I thik you'll have.

connor.towerLove this overview and comparison! I run omv on a 8GB Pi 5 NAS (Radxa SATA hat + SSDs over the Pi’s PCIe) and it’s been phenomenal for its size. The Compose plugin allows easy Docker management — I have a local Minecraft server running in it with no problems.
Honest the radxa set up, is one of the cheapest options the works well.
jbgruberI've been running omv on different systems for about 10 years. Over time they removed a lot of features and focused on the core: network attached storage. It's easy to set up ftp and smb shares for different users, do a few automation things with the cron interface, and do se backup things. Most of the functions are just wrapping Linux config and it doesn't get in the way when I use standard Linux applications or docker container.
Yeah, OMV is really only for storage and that's it.
Parasiteloved omv till they did an update to the docker and just stop using it
Yeah, it seems a lot of work for a straight forward function.
Parasiteyeah why ended up dropping it 🥺
DI have a raspberry pi 4 running OMV with external USB hard drives. using a powered USB hub so it doesn't overload the power limits of the raspberry pi's USB. It does the trick nicely. and I like the fact it has some notifications and automation you can setup
That's the perfect set up for this system I think.
PowerFlower 🇩🇰Omv is awesome in my opinion, used to run it on HP n54l devices. Loved that it wasn't bloated and it is perfect for media purposes. Maybe not as good for home automation systems. But for plex or kodi source or such, it's awesome
For super low resource storage management it's great, totally agree.
TimmmeeehhhExcited for the hexOS video. I like the concept of it but what what i’ve gathered is nowhere near good enough to replace truenas for most people
